2015 New Years Resolutions and why you NEED to make them!

It’s something about the moment the ball drops that makes a person feel anew. It is a refreshing feeling stepping into a new year, isn’t it? A time to reflect, self- evaluate, have multiple moments of clarity and most importantly create those notorious New Year’s Resolutions. Unfortunately, why don’t these promises to ourselves stick?

Below are a few tips on summing up your year and remaining true to your resolutions!

For starters enter Reflection Mode. In this mode, a person is totally living in the past. They want to mentally re-live the lessons learned in 2014, and write them down. These include:  failed relationships, achieved goals, enlightenment, the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is a wise idea to section off the year by seasons. Look at the dated pictures on your Instagram or Facebook accounts, and read archival tweets or statuses you sent out. In doing so, you’ll get a piece of where your head was at throughout the year. (It’ll dawn on you how much takes place, and how much situations change in a year’s time.) The purpose of this exercise is to have these lessons and experiences written in stone. Writing things down, serve as a more reliable memory device. Often times, we try to remember the good times, and overlook the bad. Be true to yourself while recording your year. Don’t hold back, and be brutally honest, this journal will only help you in your future decision making.

Now, when it comes to Resolutions: BE realistic! If you’re making a promise to lose weight, make sure it is a realistic goal, and you give yourself the proper amount of time. Don’t create outrageous plans for yourself, because that’s when you will become discouraged and give up. Here is a for sure way to remain motivated:

Every day when you wake up, watch a short 3-4 minute motivational piece. They are all over the internet! You can have the video clip saved in your browser under favorites, and watch it as you’re still lying down. I guarantee you—it’ll WAKE you up! Also, listening to positive music is a way to uplift and keep your mind focused. Don’t underestimate the effect music can have on your behavior. Try it!

The most important route to remaining true to your new commitments is to simply believe in yourself! Have the courage and confidence to believe you can do just about anything you put your mind to— and that’s a literal statement! It all balls down to the countdown. ..TEN, NINE, EIGHT…those 10 seconds should be filled with no regrets and positive thoughts. Why? Regardless of what you went through in 2014, you now have a fresh start! You are no longer a talker, your actions make noise! With that said, remain true to your resolutions— but most importantly true to yourself!
