Have you ever felt ashamed of certain things you have done in your life? Is the guilt constantly creeping within you, and you feel as if you will never learn to forgive yourself and move forward? Well you are not alone! There are many people who make life choices, only to regret the decisions they have made. Healing of shame truly takes time and understanding of oneself.

Did you know that guilt is a God-given emotion? Shame, however states that the person themselves are bad, or are worthless. Shame begins externally with an implication of silence and neglect. When a person mistakes and faults are brought to the mind, one remembers their own sin. They replay incidents constantly in their minds, reminding them of their wrong doing. This makes a person to believe they are an awful person; that it is their fault. There is nothing they can do to overcome the feeling of shame. It’s like the saying “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! -Frank Outlaw” Yet, healing begins when one identifies and confesses the lies one has believed about them.

Some acts can be so shameful that one is still emotionally bound by it. Acts that have taken place years before, even acts that may have been uncontrollable. In these situations, such acts must be brought into the presence of Jesus. No matter how bad they are, or how hurtful they make you feel. Only he can bring full emotional cleansing and freedom. You have to fully understand that your selfish acts were made out of subconscious acts and not based off the fact that you are a bad person; or they were made by another person’s selfishness acts and their subconscious. When you truly understand your mistakes and give them to God. You are ready to move forward!  It will help you to learn to forgive yourself and others.
