Let’s face it, summer is over and winter is near. Even though you may be unable to lie on the beach and relax, our mind & body still requires a few days of worry free bliss. Can’t go on a vacation right now? Try planning your next staycation. A “staycation” is a less costly and more close to home type of vacation that can still give your mind the rest it needs for a few days.
Forget the Vacation – Take a Staycation!
Rules for a Staycation:
Make sure each day all of your senses are being pleased (smell, touch, hear, taste, sight)
Turn off cell phone for at least 1 hour and do not allow yourself to do any work if possible for up to 24 hours
Staycation must be 1-2 days
Single woman on a budget: For less than $150 you can receive a facial and massage at your local spas. Check Groupon or Living Social for the latest specials on overnight hotel stays and book a room locally that have a day spa, indoor pool, gym and other amenities that are of interest. Go to dinner at a new restaurant and try a new dish. The point is to introduce your mind to new things that will also relax you for up 24 hours.
Mother and wife: If you have children a majority of your “staycation” will involve your family during the day. Write out a strict schedule of your intentions to spend time with your family and yourself. Throughout this time explain the process and purpose of a “staycation” to your household to ensure they are able to support you. Plan family activities during the day all parties can engage in; such as making breakfast together as a family and giving everyone a task to complete. If your children are unable to assist you with cooking, try making a themed breakfast for your family that is fun! Many of these themed ideas can be found in our Modern Domestic EGL section. Play board games or games outdoors with your children or tour your city for the afternoon with the family and use public transportation to get around your city to explore. At some point during your day find a new activity to engage in away from your house for up to 2-4 hours.
